Robert M. Markus, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S.Dr. Markus was born here in Austin and graduated from McCallum High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, and Doctor Of Medicine from Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, in 1990. By 1995 Dr Markus completed his General Surgery internship and residency at The University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Lubbock. He has been a Diplomate of The American Board of Surgery since receiving his Board Certification in 1996, and is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons.
He has been with Surgical Associates of Austin since 1995 and is on staff at several area hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. He serves in the medical staff leadership at South Austin Hospital currently as Chief of Staff, formerly as Chief of the Department of Surgery. Medical society memberships include the Travis County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association.
